Interpol are entering a new chapter with This Mirror Weighs a Ton, the New York rock band’s latest studio album, released August 28.
In comments surrounding the release, frontman Paul Banks described a creative process shaped by the band’s long history together and its evolving approach to recording. The project follows 2022’s The Other Side of Make-Believe and is Interpol’s first album released through Partisan Records.
Produced by Andrew Wyatt and mixed by David Fridmann, This Mirror Weighs a Ton was recorded in New York City. It also marked the first time in more than a decade that Interpol completed an album session in their hometown.
Across its 12 tracks, the band builds on its familiar guitar-driven sound while introducing synthesizers, strings, acoustic guitars and additional percussion. The broader instrumentation gives the record new textures without moving far from the dark, atmospheric style that has defined much of Interpol’s catalog. Lyrically, the album explores self-examination, perception, and personal accountability.
