Journey drummer Deen Castronovo was taken to a hospital after experiencing a medical emergency during the band’s concert in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Thursday, October 8.
The 62-year-old musician was helped offstage at the BOK Center after the band performed its first two songs. During the unexpected interruption, keyboardist Jonathan Cain addressed the audience, explained the situation, and asked fans to keep Castronovo in their prayers.
Guitarist Neal Schon later confirmed that Castronovo had been taken to the hospital. He also announced that longtime Journey drum technician Steve Toomey would step in to finish the performance.
After a delay of approximately 20 minutes, the band returned to the stage and continued the concert. Schon dedicated the show to Castronovo and expressed hope for his recovery.
The incident occurred during Journey’s Final Frontier farewell tour, which includes a scheduled performance in San Antonio, Texas, on October 10.
As of Friday morning, no official information had been released about the cause of Castronovo’s medical emergency or his current condition.
